Unlocking a Comfortable Night's Sleep: Dealing with Eczema & Psoriasis

Posted by Anthea Donald on

Have you ever experienced the frustrating itchiness of eczema and psoriasis that seems to worsen at night? Rest assured, you're not alone. The midnight struggle is real, but there are ways to improve your sleep quality and find relief from these skin conditions.

As the founder of Pasithea Sleep, I intimately understand the challenges of living with dryness, rashes, itchiness, and burning sensations. After enduring over two decades of discomfort, embarrassment, and countless sleepless nights due to my condition, I embarked on a mission to find solutions that could alleviate these challenges.

My journey began in my mid-twenties when my condition made its unwelcome entrance into my life. Navigating its effects, especially in a professional setting, proved to be a taxing endeavor. If you're reading this article, chances are you're well-acquainted with the trial and error associated with pharmaceutical and holistic treatments, just as I am.

When establishing the Pasithea Sleep brand, I sought out fabrics that would be gentle on the skin. After evaluating various natural materials like cotton, linen, silk, and bamboo, I discovered that bamboo offered the most significant benefits. Here's why:

Breathable. The super fine weave of our 100% bamboo fabric allows air-flow to and from your skin, making it a superior choice for stabilising body temperature in both summer and winter.

Moisture Wicking Bamboo fabric can absorb up to four times its weight in moisture, 50% more than fine cotton, making it the best choice for keeping your skin dry comfortable and healthy while you sleep.

Less Irritation: The soft, silky weave is smooth against the skin, which can help prevent irritation. Due to the fine yarn fibre, and our sateen weave structure makes the fabric feels buttery soft. Benefits that cotton and linen cannot provide.

Anti-Microbial The bamboo plant is naturally resistant to bacteria and fungi. Much of these properties carry over to the finished fabric, helping to avoid bacteria and odours.

Hypoallergenic: The bamboo fabric used on our collection is grown and manufactured without the use of harmful chemicals and pesticides. It has been tested according to OEKO-TEX®, a globally recognised testing standard. This means there are no harmful chemicals in the production process, from the harvested fibre through to the spinning, weaving and the dyeing processes. Our fabric is free of harmful substances such as azo dyes and formaldehyde, ensuring all sleepwear and bedding is comfortable and safe for your skin.

Sustainable: Bamboo is a sustainable and healthy alternative to synthetic satin fabrics that dominate the sleepwear market. Not only is it kinder on the earth, bamboo is also carbon neutral, water efficient and one of the most rapidly regenerating plants in existence. The inherent microbial properties of bamboo also eliminate the need for pesticides and fertiliser, making it a healthier choice for everyday wear. This, along with the fabric’s OEKO-TEX® accreditation, made it the standout textile choice for our collection.

As someone who has lived with discomfort, I understand the importance of patience and persistence in managing these conditions. While I can't promise a cure, I believe that sleeping in bamboo products can bring a measure of relief to those dealing with similar struggles.
